Online retailers can use a series of follow-up e-mails to lower cart abandonment rates, starting with a message asking whether shoppers need help to complete the purchase, digital media expert William Johnson writes. The second message lets shoppers know their selected items are being held but the merchandise might soon sell out, and the third includes a follow-up offer of discounts or free shipping to bring shoppers back, he writes.
