Police in London have recovered a $1.8 million Stradivarius violin that was stolen three years ago from a restaurant in a train station while its owner ate a sandwich. It wasn't the first time something extremely valuable has gone missing from a public place, writes Eric Levenson: a diamond ring, a bridge and an entire beach have been made to vanish from under the nose of their rightful owners.
