China is responding to recent leaks about cyber-spying by the National Security Agency by launching an investigation into three U.S.-based technology firms in an attempt to uncover potential security holes. According to a Shanghai news source, China's Ministry of Public Security and a government research center are reportedly getting ready to examine IBM, Oracle and EMC, although no government official has confirmed the probe. "The Prism scandal certainly provides ample material for real concern," said Mark Natkin, managing director of Marbridge Consulting, a Beijing-based market intelligence firm.
