In one of the largest dogfighting busts in U.S. history, federal, state and local officials collaborated in an investigation that led to the arrest of 12 people and rescue of 367 pit bulls from dire conditions. The animals were reportedly used in a dogfighting ring that spanned several states. Many of the animals were emaciated and covered in fleas, and some had open wounds that needed immediate care.
