Norwegian Air has put in a big order for about 260 Boeing 737-800s, 737-8 Max twin jets and Airbus A320neos. In 2011, it had only 62 aircraft in its fleet. "Furthermore, Norwegian is acquiring the Boeing 787 to begin low-cost, international service, a concept that has struggled for success ever since the days of Laker Airways' SkyTrain service," writes aviation industry insider Scott Hamilton.
Alaska Airlines has finalized an order for three 737-900ER jets from Boeing, but pushed back deliveries on two other 737s from 2013 until 2014. The carrier plans to take delivery on four more 737s by the end of 2012. Alaska Airlines flies an all-Boeing fleet.
