In their new book, "Managers as Mentors," Chip Bell and Marshall Goldsmith offer an action plan for bosses who want to get better at helping workers achieve their potential. Among their tips: View mentorship as a partnership, not a one-way relationship; offer ongoing support beyond the context of specific mentoring sessions; and don't be afraid to let your mentee go when they've learned enough to stand on their own.
