U.S. airlines plan to increase the number of available seats every quarter this year, following years of cuts. Airlines for America said carriers plan to boost capacity by 1.4% for the fourth quarter, as compared to the same quarter last year. John Heimlich, the chief economist for A4A, said U.S. airlines "made the transition from razor-thin margins to paper-thin margins" in the first half of the year.
