Freight carload traffic on U.S. railroads increased 0.5% in the week ending Aug. 17 year-on-year, and intermodal traffic rose 3.7%, according to the Association of American Railroads. Shipments of petroleum and petroleum products climbed 19.6%, the most of the four carload categories that recorded growth. Overall U.S. traffic for the latest week was up 2% versus the same period last year, AAR noted.
