Freight carload traffic of U.S. railroads dropped 1.7% in the week ending Aug. 24 year-on-year, but intermodal activity rose 3.5%, according to the Association of American Railroads. Shipments of petroleum and petroleum products recorded the highest growth of 15.3% among six of the 10 carload categories that posted gains. Overall U.S. traffic increased 0.7% in the latest week, AAR noted.
