Despite New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg's efforts to ban polystyrene foam from food packaging applications, recycling of the material is a real solution, according to the American Chemistry Council. Educating the public on the benefits of recycling PS foam is critical, said Keith Christman, managing director of plastic markets at ACC. "There tends to be a lot of confusion and a lot of misunderstandings in terms of what can be recycled with foodservice packaging. PS is recyclable, but there needs to be bigger communication and make it clear," Christman said.
