The Mobile County Public School System in Alabama will open four signature career academies this school year, and the district has plans to unveil additional academies. Academies offer students specialized curriculum paths in manufacturing, aviation, health care, technology and more. Freshmen will spend a year learning about their options before choosing a path their sophomore year. "Students will be more engaged and more successful because they will be able to choose what they're interested in from the courses that have been developed," said Karen Mohr, the system's acting chief academic officer.
