Graduate students at the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa will be limited to 20 hours per week because of new rules under the Affordable Care Act, the university has said. Despite delayed implementation of the rule requiring employers to pay benefits to any employee working 30 hours or more, many schools already are limiting hours of adjuncts and other part-time employees. "We haven't heard from other schools that this has been happening, but it sounds like it could be the start of people thinking about it," said Meredith Niles of the National Association of Graduate-Professional Students.
