One analysis suggested Portland, Ore., could see health cost savings as it improves its bike infrastructure, and a study of 11 cities in the Great Lakes region found if people did 50% of commutes of 5 miles or less by bike instead of by car it could lead to savings of 1,100 lives and $7.3 billion annually in health care costs.
