A Senate bill would loosen federal restrictions to make it easier for Alaska schools, hospitals and other care facilities to serve more traditional Alaskan foods. Fish- and farm-to-school programs already are popular, and while not all native foods could safely be served to hospital patients, Jeannette Lawson of the Alaska Native Medical Center said many people see native dishes as comfort food.
