Dozens of paralyzed birds in the Peace River region of British Columbia tested negative for West Nile virus and avian influenza, so the search continues for the cause of their illness. The birds appear bright and are interested in eating, but they cannot walk, and the juvenile birds have broken bones. "All we know is that these birds could not fly and could not walk," said wildlife veterinarian Helen Schwantje. In Manitoba, 50 dead birds also tested negative for West Nile and other pathogens, and the cause of their deaths remains a mystery.
