The Class of 1961 from Male High School in Louisville, Ky., was integrated, but the experiences of white and black students were different. The students have been meeting every few months in the two years since their 50th year class reunion to finally get to know one another and discuss how the social climate shaped different realities while they attended the same high school. "The black community was fighting battles that we didn't know about -- or we chose not to know about," said Bill Holmes, the class president who apologized to his black classmates during a 2001 reunion.
