Carlos Slim's America Movil wants to buy the 70% of Dutch telecom KPN that the Mexican carrier does not own in an effort to "unlock value," according to Slim's head of finance. America Movil said Friday that it would offer $9.6 billion for KPN even though the Dutch firm is in the midst of selling off its valuable E-Plus business to Spain's Telefonica for $11 billion. America Movil's finance chief, Carlos García Moreno, denied to a Dutch newspaper that the bid was designed to foil Telefonica's plans.
