Americans spent $432 billion to power their homes and commercial buildings in 2011 -- but it doesn't have to be that way, writes John Mandyck, chief sustainability officer for United Technologies Climate, Controls & Security. Newer technologies can make buildings more energy efficient, helping the planet and driving down costs for everyone.
