Benign weather in Brazil's center south in the first half of August allowed mills to crush 46.3 million metric tons of sugarcane and produce 2.91 million metric tons of sugar, both the highest so far for a half-month this harvest season, industry group Unica said. Sugar output would have been higher if not for the fact that mills were running at near peak capacity, which hinders their ability to transition between sugar and ethanol production, Unica said.
