Researchers utilized F-18 FDG PET to measure uptake in the spine and shed light on surgical outcomes in degenerative cervical myelopathy patients. The study conducted the scans in 20 patients with degenerative cervical stenosis before surgery and after one year. Results published in the Journal of Nuclear Medicine showed that 10 patients had substantial FDG uptake before surgery and decreased uptake at follow-up. The other 10 patients showed insignificant uptake prior to surgery and even lower levels after successful treatment.
