Irma Becerra-Fernandez, an engineer and vice president of engagement at Florida International University, is helping to lead efforts in South Florida to expand opportunities for underrepresented minority students in science, technology, engineering and math. Some key programs include a dual-credit program that helps prepare high-school students for college, an initiative to recruit and train STEM teachers, and creation of a coalition focused on job growth in STEM.
