The "Jelly Bean" versions of the Android operating system, representing the most recent releases, have finally passed combined "Gingerbread" versions, but the latest iteration is still relatively rare at 6.5% of the market, Google reported. Now combined use of "Jelly Bean" versions tops 40%. The issue of operating system fragmentation looms because "[f]or years now security researchers have listed fragmentation within the Android ecosystem as a key concern, warning it makes it next to impossible to fully secure the platform," Alastair Stevenson writes.
