In 2010, the health care industry had more nonfatal workplace injuries and illnesses than any other U.S. sector, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Despite these injury rates, a Public Citizen report found that the Occupational Safety and Health Administration conducts almost 20 times more inspections in construction workplaces than in health care facilities. The agency responded in a statement, saying that it does not have "resources to move forward on all rule-making necessary to address all the pressing workplace health and safety hazards."
