The Transportation Department should assess the probable impact of heavier and longer trucks on bridge and highway infrastructure in its review of U.S. truck size and weight standards, according to a bipartisan group of 45 House lawmakers. "We are concerned that heavier or longer trucks could divert significant amounts of freight to highways, resulting in an increase in heavy truck traffic and increased costs to states and localities," the group stated in a letter to DOT Secretary Anthony Foxx.
