Youths with type 1 diabetes who used insulin pumps had fewer episodes of low blood glucose levels and lower admission rates for diabetic ketoacidosis than those who received insulin injections, an Australian study in the journal Diabetologia showed. Researchers found, however, that 38 of the 345 2- to 19-year-olds in the study stopped using the pump at some point during the three-year study, citing pump management and physical appearance as reasons for stopping.
