Evidence of a previous collision or a close encounter with the sun has been found in the debris left by the bus-sized meteor that exploded over Chelyabinsk, Russia, this year. Researchers found melted areas on the rock fragments. "This almost certainly means that there was a collision between the Chelyabinsk meteorite and another body in the solar system or a near miss with the sun," said Victor Sharygin, a geologist at the Institute of Geology and Mineralogy in Novosibirsk, Russia.
