Mexico's secretary of agriculture will work to form alliances with small growers in an effort to boost berry production and double the acreage dedicated to strawberries in the next five years, the agency said this week. The country's berry industry employs about 80,000 to 100,000 people, and a first-phase project to add 2,000 hectares of new strawberry plantings in Michoacán, Jalisco and Baja California is expected to create about 15,000 new jobs.
