Fifth-graders at a Northville, Mich., school will study language arts, science and other subjects outdoors after teacher Dave Babich got permission from the city council to use an undeveloped, city-owned lot near the school for lessons. Among the projects he has planned are having students create digital guidebooks that record the plants and animal life in the wooded area. "It will provide an authentic education experience for my students at a time when off campus field trips are being reduced or eliminated," Babich said.
