A North Carolina school district is expanding its universal, free breakfast program to all of its elementary schools and one middle school -- pointing to evidence that students who eat breakfast perform better in school and are absent less frequently. The district also will offer a second-chance breakfast program for high-school students who miss the first breakfast service at 7:30 a.m. and want a second opportunity at 9:25 a.m.
