A North Carolina school district is working to recruit and retain new teachers by partnering with area colleges and universities to pair new teachers with mentors to help guide them through their first years. "You want new folks coming in with new ideas and new approaches to things, and more senior teachers who can take them under their wings and provide advice as they mature in their careers," said Nancy Waymack, managing director of district policy for the National Council on Teacher Quality.
