Beginning this fall, a state law will require faculty at Iowa's public universities to test student learning as part of efforts to improve courses with 300 or more students. Daniel Hurley, with the American Association of State Colleges and Universities in Washington, D.C., says the law dictates how faculty teach. "This legislation is clearly an aberration from the norm, in terms of legislative intrusion on university academic matters," Hurley said.
