New NENA President Buster Brown said the U.S. needs nationwide minimum training standards for telecommunicators instead of state-by-state policies that might not include certification. Telecommunicators take the first step in an incident response so if a mistake is made the entire response is in jeopardy, Brown said. NENA CEO Brian Fontes supported the idea of national standards but said they would require a federal funding mechanism.
