The number of people who trade in their smartphones to get a newer model could dramatically climb, according to an NPD consumer poll that found 55% of smartphone owners said they would trade in their handsets at the next opportunity. That compares to 13% who have done so in the past. NPD said it also found that smartphones have potentially strong trade-in value -- as long as the quality of the carriers' offers remain consistent.
