Norfolk Southern's intermodal facilities in Alabama, Tennessee and Pennsylvania follow best practices to meet the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design standards, according to NS. For instance, its administration building at the Birmingham Regional Intermodal Facility in McCalla, Ala., gained LEED certification for new construction and major renovations. The certification emphasizes NS' "commitment to a sustainable business strategy benefiting our customers and the communities we serve," said Blair Wimbush, NS vice president of real estate and corporate sustainability officer.
