Rockford and East Kentwood high schools in western Michigan each will host five Chinese students for the school year. The district partnered with the Weiming Education Group, a private education entity in China, to bring the students to the U.S., and the district will receive $10,000 per student. Jeff Hayes, a Chinese teacher at Rockford, believes American students studying the language will benefit from the opportunity to meet and communicate with native speakers.
