Researchers from the Institute of Molecular Biotechnology in Austria and the University of Edinburgh in Scotland have grown cerebral organoids using human induced pluripotent stem cells. The 4-millimeter organoids consisted of specialized brain cells similar to those seen in 9-week-old fetal brains, according to the study published in the journal Nature. Researchers say the organoids have provided insight into the condition of microcephaly and that they could be used to study other neurological diseases and test new drugs.
