India's Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion was asked on Friday by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for recommendations on possible reforms to its foreign investment rules for drugmakers to safeguard its supply of inexpensive lifesaving treatments, India's trade minister Anand Sharma said. India wants to guarantee that foreign drugmakers do not restrict its supply of inexpensive cancer drugs, Sharma said. The government is also concerned that drug prices could be difficult to control because acquisitions could put the local industry in the hands of foreign drugmakers.
