Using a Hawaiian lava field as the mock landscape of Mars, six researchers have ended a four-month NASA-funded mission simulation to determine how to feed astronauts during long space trips. "Ingredients that will be essential for future space missions on Mars or the moon will include spices, herbs and hot sauce," said mission commander Angelo Vermeulen, who also listed fiber-rich and comfort foods as necessary items.
