Students moving from fifth grade in elementary school to sixth grade in the middle schools in Lawrence, Kan., will no longer see standards-based grading for their academic subjects after parents complained the system was difficult to understand. Instead, teachers will use the traditional "A-F" scale. Students will continue to receive standards-based grades such as "excels" or "targeted for improvement" for learning behaviors such as being prepared for class.
