A small device weighing about 11 pounds can convert most plastics into a diesel-like fuel plus a non-soluble gas that can be used in place of liquid petroleum gas, according to this article. The invention by Indian engineer Chitra Thiyagarajan is said to be inexpensive and can produce 800 ml of fuel from a kilogram of plastic using chromium band heaters in the absence of oxygen.
