Wal-Mart is reportedly considering a bid to buy Hutchison Whampoa's Hong Kong-based supermarket chain ParknShop, sources said. Preliminary bids for the chain, which operates 345 stores in Hong Kong, mainland China and Macau, are due next week; the company says the chain is valued as high as $4 billion. Eight retail companies including Wesfarmers and Woolworths were initially invited to participate in the bidding process, and private equity firms have reportedly also expressed interest.
