A youth programme in impoverished Kliptown, South Africa -- where the unemployment rate stands at more than 70% -- is aimed at engaging the community and broadening educational opportunities for young people. Activities planned around students' interests include tutoring, arts and cultural activities, sports and technology as well as skills training. The Kliptown Youth Program was founded in 2007 and has since sent more than 20 individuals from the impoverished community to higher education, while helping many others graduate from secondary school.
