Maryland is the latest state to pursue online payday lenders by going through banks that it believes are enabling them to collect payments. Mark Kaufman, commissioner with the state's division of financial regulation, says his office has given the names of eight banks to federal regulators in recent months.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency said Elite International Foods recalled its Margaritaville Sweet French Style Dressing because it may include mustard not declared on the product label. The affected products were supplied to retailers all over Canada.
Students in La Salle University's Exploring Nutrition project take part in anti-hunger programs in the Philadelphia area, such as the Germantown Hunger Network and the Fresh Grocer project. Graduate student Tom Wingert says he helped launch the Germantown Hunger Network as a way for organizations involved in anti-hunger activities to stay connected, and hopes it can become a model for other neighborhoods.
Grade-school children should be encouraged to pack their own lunch for school, which can help teach them about food groups and nutrition, says registered dietitian Amy Goldsmith. Goldsmith says taking children to the grocery store to choose lunch foods can make them more enthusiastic about healthy eating.
Data from an East Carolina University study suggested exercise may help prevent erectile dysfunction linked to a diet high in saturated fat, sugar and omega-6 fatty acids. The study, conducted with rats, also found that those fed a healthy diet did not develop erectile dysfunction or coronary artery problems regardless of whether they exercised.
