The Tennessee Health eShare Direct Project, which leverages Direct technology, was launched statewide after being tested in several areas including Memphis and Chattanooga. The initiative, which is being overseen by the Tennessee Office of eHealth Initiatives, aims to enroll 4,000 providers and allow them to exchange encrypted electronic health data. Direct technology "offers secure alternatives to faxing or e-mailing patient information and allows seamless collaboration among health care providers that was previously not possible," said George Beckett, the state's HIT coordinator.
