Mondelez International posted higher earnings and revenue in the second quarter, though profit fell 40%. The company said it will buy back from shareholders as much as $6 billion worth of stock through 2016 and hopes that emerging markets will contribute to future sales growth.
Suntava has developed a syrup made with purple corn for use in beer, confectionery, baked goods and other food products. The syrup is made with corn that is high in anthocyanins, and imparts a purple color.
Cadbury India said it will build a factory in Andhra, India, that will become the largest chocolate facility in India and the biggest Mondelez International factory in the Asia Pacific. Construction is expected to begin in 2015, for completion in 2020.
John Faerber, who founded New Industrial Designs in Australia in 1952, has died at the age of 98. Faerber, who was born in Germany, became an Australian citizen before creating the starch molding machinery company that is now helmed by his daughter Esther Faerber.
Cacao pod husks, which comprise as much as 76% of the weight of cacao fruit, could be taken out of the waste stream and used as a source of pectin, researchers say. They say citric acid could be used to derive as many as 10 grams of pectin per 100 grams of cacao husk.
