The digitization of manufacturing and the emergence of the software-defined supply chain will bring benefits to industry in the future, but the initial changeover most likely will cause a shake-up. A previous report by IBM stated that "[b]y changing requirements for scale, location and volume, the software-defined supply chain won't just changes costs or manufacturing processes -- it will effectively up-end the industry structure as we know it." Because of this, companies should re-think their logistics models to avoid potential disruptions.
