Old roofing shingles will be recycled into paving material under a partnership between the Putnam County, Tenn., Solid Waste Department and Ground Up Recycling. The initiative will target 8,000 to 10,000 tons of discarded shingles and divert them from the landfill. Ground Up Recycling plans to grind the shingles into material for roads and help the county achieve 100% diversion for solid waste, co-founder Matt Allen says.
