Dr. Herbert Perkins, a co-founder of the National Marrow Donor Program and a pioneer in the study of blood coagulation and human leukocyte antigen matching, died last week. He was 94. Dr. Perkins, a winner of AABB's Bernard Fantus Medal Lifetime Achievement Award, held multiple posts with the Irwin Memorial Blood Bank, served as an associate editor for the Journal of Transfusion and led the Standards and Histocompatibility committees for AABB.
