Life expectancy is a crucial factor in financial planning, and it can be the most critical of all variables affecting performance. While the average life expectancy is 81 for a woman and 76 for a man, that doesn't give the full picture, Tom Tillery writes. The average couple at retirement age, though, will live longer than that, and a minority will live significantly longer. Planners should take that into account, he writes.
