With nearly 1 in 5 teens leaving high school as smokers, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force has recommended that interventions such as physician offices mailing smoking prevention guides to parents and teens may help address the issue. However, the task force, as well as the AAP and other experts, recognize that broader strategies are needed to help prevent teen smoking. The recommendations appear in the Annals of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics.
